Stain Removal

The other night I was preparing my lunches for the week and talking to my friend Susheela on the phone. I was putting my favorite Greek dressing on my salad and squeezed the bottle too hard and spilled Greek dressing EVERYWHERE - all over the counter, all over me and my nightshirt, on my slippers, on the floor. Since the dressing is olive oil based, I didn’t think it would come out of my nightshirt. I let it soak in dish soapy water overnight. After hang drying, the stain remained. (On a side note, I noticed during my last weekend of laundry that one of the knit shirts I wear to work had a grease stain that didn’t come out in the wash and my favorite khaki cords also had an odd stain. Both stained items had gone through the dryer.)
Yesterday, I had the brilliant idea to wash the three items (knit shirt, cords, night shirt) using dish soap instead of laundry detergent. I pretreated all the stains with Palmolive and then dumped them in the washer with more Palmolive. It took an extra 3 or 4 rinse cycles to get out all the suds but after hang drying them, THE GREASE STAINS ARE GONE! I’m so pleased!

I saw the following headline on drudgereport.com:

Yo-Yo Diet: Nestle to Buy Diet Giant Jenny Craig?...

Is that ironic? That a company that made it's name selling chocolate wants to buy a weight loss company?

For those of you who have not met me in person, I’m pretty thickly built. It wouldn’t kill me to stop eating and go live in my gym for awhile. However, my gym is in a strip mall near my house which contains no fewer than FOUR bakeries as well as a Chinese takeout place and a family restaurant. I find it to be nearly demoralizing to walk by the Great Harvest Bread Company on my way to and from my workouts.

For the record, I just had a bone density scan done (for fun) and my t-score is 3.4. That means I am 3.4 standard deviations (SD) above the young adult mean. The young adult mean is the expected normal value for me compared to other women of the same ethnicity. That puts me in the like 99.996th percentile for bone density. (Although it bothers me, I am unable to find the true percentile value. If someone else finds it, please pass it along!)

You Know You’re a Nerd When…
I wrote my dad a little letter for Father’s Day and in order to illustrate the point that my pride in him has grown as I’ve gotten older, I drew a pride vs. age diagram that showed a linearly increasing relationship…
