School Snobbery, Gift Receipts, Reversible Belts

I was talking this weekend to my friend Marcela who I knew at Case and went on to a medical school program that involved both USF and Cal Berkeley. We were discussing her future residency options and the pros and cons of various programs. She admitted to being an academic snob. “At my school, there are designated parking spots for Noble Laureates.” Very true Marcela, very true. But another way to look at it is that if you go to a school in the midwest, there is enough room so that EVERYONE gets a parking spot, not just the Nobel Laureates.

Gift receipts are bullshit. Just in case you don’t already know that.

Unrelated, right after Christmas, I bought myself a reversible belt from the men’s department at TJ Maxx. I heard that men’s belts are of higher quality than women’s and I just wanted something plain and classic. Embarrassingly enough, I never really understood how the reversible part worked so I only used the black side. The other day I was at work, and I broke the belt. I stripped the threads right off of the screw that controls the reversibility mechanism. My bad. It was only after destroying it that I figured out how it was supposed to work. I think they call that a destructive discovery.

Reversible belts are not so popular in the women’s section. I guess not enough women appreciate the genius of having two belts in one.

If women have two belts in one, then they only get to buy one belt. Men are cheap and efficient. Women thrive on accessorizing.
